The Warriors preparations for the 2018/2019 season kick up a notch or two this week as fitness, strength and conditioning programmes are supplemented by indoor batting and bowling sessions under the watchful eye of coach Rivash Gobind as well as some specialised fielding drills courtesy of former Proteas Assistant-Coach Adi Birrell.
“No doubt about it, this is one of – if not THE – hardest-working franchise in South African cricket.” Those were the words of team Strength & Conditioning expert Drikus Saaiman as he talked us through the activity taking place.
“All the batsmen are today working through areas of weakness that they’ve personally identified in their game whilst the bowlers are focusing on technical aspects of their delivery stride working off a shortened run up. Later this week they’ll gradually begin working up to their full run up,” he explained.
Here’s a relaxed-looking Gihahn Cloete pictured in official training attire ahead of his net session this morning as well as a glimpse of Basheer Walters perfecting his delivery stride with the aid of a few mini-hurdles!
